“China Realism Painting 15th Anniversary Exhibition” is held at the Guardian Art Center in Beijing from November 28 to December 8, 2019. The exhibition, co-hosted by the Chinese Realism School and the Guardian Art Center, collects 31 artists’ most famous and representative works as well as their latest works. This exhibition is a summary and review of the 15-year achievements of Chinese Realism. It is also a showcase of both individual performance and the overall fruits of like-minded artists.

It is worth mentioning that this exhibition will present a special oil painting — “Valiant May 2008. This painting is co-created by 26 artists from the Chinese Realism School for 14 consecutive days and nights, and it is a special thematic display about the Wenchuan earthquake of May 12, 2008. This oil painting is a realism work of great historical significance, as it is inspired by the real scene and represents the solemn and stirring scene of the people of the whole country in the earthquake relief. This artwork, conceived and executed with both sweeping grandeur and heartfelt emotion, wields enormous power in moving people. It can be regarded as a magnum opus of contemporary Chinese art as it vividly portrays the reality of earthquake relief and enriches the corpus of Chinese contemporary art with a landmark work of significant emblematic value. The esteemed art historian Shao Dazhen gives high praise to this artwork, “The painting Valiant May 2008 is set to make a profound mark in the annals of Chinese art history.”
